I believe PSE is mistaken in their listing of this set for completion. To demand that one requires the three Scott listed shades of the 90c is both expensive and unnecessary in my view. These shades are all simply shades of blue and fairly uniquely in Scott are given seperate catalogue numbers 72, 72a and 72b. They all have the same catalogue value. Almost every stamp in Scott has shade varieties noted ie light and dark of one umbrella colour but these do not warrant seperate Scott catalogue numbers -- so why do they here? And why does PSE follow suit? Where shades have a sub listing suffix such as 63b 1c dark blue there is generally a distinct element of rarity according to the difference of colour. In such cases I agree such inclusion is valid. If PSE decides to follow Scott listings as they have done with this stamp they should do so universally and not just with Sc72. Who, generally and traditionally, collects three such shades of the same high value for completion of this issue? I remonstrated this point with PSE. They disgreed, making the comparison that as they listed sub divisions of the 1861 3c rose such as the pigeon blood, the rose pink and rose shades why not here? But these are distinctly different colours attracting vastly different catalogue values. The comparison is therefore misleading. I feel it is invidious that collectors are obliged to collect unnecessary high value stamps for the completion of this Registry Set.
