Owner's Comments: This is a truly beautiful commemorative set that pays tribute to and celebrates the westward expansion of the U.S. The art designers at the Bureau of Engraving & Printing really outdid themselves in their first commemorative design effort. No stamp set better captures the air and imagery of what it must have looked like and felt, in heeding the famous words to "Go West, young man, and grow up with the country." My all time favorites in this set are the 4 cent Orange depicting a Native American hunting a buffalo with bow and arrow and of course, the $1 dollar in Black showing a herd of Western cattle trying to survive the brutality of a Winter snowstorm. Again, the art designers at the Bureau of Engraving & Printing came up with beautiful and timeless designs that jump out and say, "Hey, take a good look at me!" It is not surprising that the $1 issue is consistently voted as one of the "Most Beautiful" stamps ever issued in all U.S. philately. |
